We are excited to share that the Sandbox API Endpoints are now live. Clients can now integrate and test products in a safe sandbox environment without worrying about consuming paid credits or exposing sensitive data.
These new endpoints will help you to:
- Query PDL API’s without using paid credits: You can test products before deploying to production to ensure compatibility with our API parameters and data structures.
- Access only the synthetic data: You can evaluate our endpoints without revealing proprietary or regulated data.
- Save time: You can conduct concurrent testing and development.

Targeting a soft rollout of a v1 Sandbox in Q2 2022

It would be much more helpful if the data was not dummy but a very small subset of real data. Dummy data is only good for making sure your calls are working... but you can build demo apps around limited data and really sell the value easier.

Electric violet Wombat: Hey Craig! Our privacy and compliance team has concerns about opening up a public sandbox that has real PII data. Our goal is to make the sandbox as close to real data as possible while being sensitive to privacy and compliance needs.

Ben Eisenberg: Ahh makes sense -- thanks for the info!

Ben Eisenberg: Not to beat a dead horse but after thinking about it more... would you have the same compliance issue if you had a two-tierr system. Tier 1 -- Fully open to public but dummy data Tier 2 -- Registered Paying Customer -- real data but a limited subset. I get that it would be more work on your end but the value increases a lot for paying customers. I could point an Intern at that instance without the fear of them using up all the credits with a rogue loop.
B
Ben Eisenberg
Electric violet Wombat: Interesting idea. The way we typically solve this today is by creating a second free account for a paying customer that is finite (in the future we're hoping to add parent // child accounts for the same purpose). Would the benefit of "Tier 2" be the limited subset of data? Or more limiting the intern from consuming paid credits?

doing soon
Our vision for a sandbox is to provide a rate-limited endpoint with access to dummy data and example code snippets across our APIs. If you have any feedback or ideas on this please reach out since we'll be starting development soon!
